Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of a test run of Mammography Boost Camp, created to improve the quality of the Korean national cancer screening program in 2012.

Materials and Methods: Applicant radiologists were invited to the 3-day camp, which featured lectures on how to read mammograms and 10 group practice readings using 250 mammography cases. The camp¡¯s effectiveness was evaluated by pre- and post-camp tests validated by a control group of experienced breast radiologists and its appropriateness was assessed by surveying participants.

Results: Ninety-six radiologists (mean age, 46.5) were enrolled. Average pre- and post-camp test scores were 56.9 ¡¾ 11.1 and 63.9 ¡¾ 8.1, respectively (p < 0.0001), but were lower than those of experienced radiologists (83.5 ¡¾ 8.8) (p < 0.0001). Test validation eliminated 4 of the 25 test cases, increasing attendees¡¯ improvement from 7.0 to 13.4 (58.3 ¡¾ 12.8, 71.7 ¡¾ 9.2). Program satisfaction averaged 96.4%.

Conclusion: Mammography Boost Camp was effective in improving attendees¡¯ skill in interpreting mammograms and program satisfaction was high. Test validation is necessary to evaluate precisely the effectiveness of the camp. The English in this document has been checked by at least two professional editors, both native speakers of English.
